About Service Day

WHY WE SERVE - Service to others is fundamental to our mission at St. Barnabas. We believe the best way to learn our Root Beliefs is to live them, and Service Day is the perfect way to live out our belief that “We are the hands of Christ”.  Engaging students in hands-on experiences opens their hearts and minds to how they can best help those in need, and we ask all students to participate in Service Day on Friday, October 2. On this remarkable and inspiring day, over 600 students, staff, and parent volunteers will gather to help others. Parents and guardians, if you have time to join us
as a chaperone, please do!

Please submit your Service Day registration form(s) by Tuesday, September 8.

DETAILS TO KNOW
  • Grades PK - 3 - Students stay on campus and participate in the same service opportunities as the rest of their grade. The registration form serves as your permission (similar to a field trip form) and also lets you register as a chaperone if you'd like to join us. Half-day and 4-day preschool students who are not typically at school on Friday afternoons are encouraged, but not required, to participate.
  • Grades 4 - 8 - Parent/guardian selects a service project for the student from a list of off-campus opportunities. Each site has limited spots available, and registration is first come/first served. If your child’s first choice is full, please select another option. Due to bus/site capacity, we cannot add more registrants to a site that has reached capacity. After submitting your registration, you will receive a Google Form email confirmation from "Forms Response Receipt". Please do not create duplicate registrations. If a student is accidentally registered at more than one site, we will accept only the first response. If you create a registration in error, please email [email protected] to request a correction.
  • Attendance Requirements - Service Day is a school-wide initiative and is a required regular attendance school day (and a 1:30 Dismissal Day). We strongly recommend that families avoid planned absences due to travel, appointments, etc. If your child cannot attend, please complete the non-attending student registration form
  • Chaperones - Each year we are fortunate to have over 100 parents join us as chaperones. If your schedule allows, please consider registering to take part! When completing the student registration, you can indicate on the form that you would like to chaperone. If you have multiple children at St. Barnabas, please volunteer at only ONE service site. Parent chaperone shifts vary slightly by project, but are approximately 8am - 11:30am. All chaperones must be compliant with their required Virtus training no later than Friday, September 18.
  • Fee - The Service Day fee is $15 per student and will be added as an incidental expense to the tuition of all full-time students.
  • Schedule - October 2 is a 1:30 Dismissal Day. After Care is available from 1:30pm - 6pm. Parent chaperone shifts vary slightly by project, but are approximately 8am - 11:30am.
  • Lunch - All students must bring a bagged lunch and water from home. There is NO hot lunch service.
  • Attire - Students should wear gym uniforms or spirit wear tops with casual bottoms. Gym shoes are required; sandals and open-back shoes are not permitted.
Make a donation! We are seeking donations for some of the organizations we will support on Service Day. Dog treats and care items, children's books, used crayons, children's and adult shoes, and financial contributions. Collection tables are available in the school's Main Hall and the Preschool Building. Kindly contribute by Tuesday, September 29.
