Here we are, already in the ninth month of the year. It often feels as though time flies so quickly that we forget to truly pause and enjoy the gift of life and the beautiful company of those around us. Sometimes, sadly, it takes physical distance—or the painful emotional distance born of disagreements and resentments—to remind us of how deeply we love one another and how much we need each other.
This Sunday’s readings speak to our hearts about what is known in religious life as fraternal correction. St. Augustine, in his beautiful Rule, uses these passages as a guide to clear away any hurt, heat, or resentment among brothers and sisters. This timeless wisdom applies so perfectly to our everyday lives. We are called to speak gently and listen deeply when we experience friction. We must always offer one another the grace of forgiveness, preserving and nurturing the relationships that are absolutely essential to our spiritual and emotional well-being.
Jesus also reminds us in the Gospel of the amazing power of communal prayer—a prayer that flows most powerfully from a heart rooted in reconciliation and understanding. He gives us that beautiful promise: whenever two or more gather, agree, and pray together, God listens closely and tenderly.
It is from this very place of communal prayer and deep listening that I want to share a loving update with you. This week at St. Barnabas, we are introducing a restructuring of our staff positions. There is nothing wrong with our previous structure; rather, we are simply evolving to better serve you. After much prayer, discernment, and consultation with every member of our Pastoral Team, I have decided to entrust more focused responsibilities to our staff.
Moving forward, each of our directors and Pastoral Assistants will serve as a dedicated liaison to specific parish groups. This will allow them to walk more closely alongside you, accompanying our ministries so that we can all grow in faith together.
After this prayerful journey with our staff and pastoral leadership, I am so pleased to announce the creation of the following positions:
