The Augustinians

In July of 2026, the Archdiocese of Chicago appointed the Augustinian community as pastoral leaders of St. Barnabas. Under the guidance of our pastor, Fr. Homero Sánchez, OSA, along with Fr. Francis Galvan, OSA (Parochial Vicar), and Bro. Joe Ruiz, OSA (Pastoral Associate and Director of Lifelong Faith Formation), the school and parish are blessed to share in the spiritual leadership of the Augustinian community. Our former convent building on Longwood Drive also serves as headquarters for the Midwest Augustinians.

The Midwest Augustinians of the Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel are members of the worldwide Order of Saint Augustine. Collectively, we rejoice in the historic election of Pope Leo XIV, the first pope from the United States, a friar of the Midwest Augustinians, and a proud product of Chicago Catholic schools, reminding us that we are one community, united in our Catholic faith.
