i-Ready

WE LIVE OUR ROOT BELIEF - We are a community of unique learners, always growing and learning.

St. Barnabas uses multiple assessments throughout the year to gain helpful information for students, teachers, and parents/guardians to understand areas of academic proficiency and areas that may need more focus. One of our main standardized assessment tools is the i-Ready Diagnostic.

i-Ready is a digitally-based assessment taken by over 11 million students annually and used throughout all grammar schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The test is completed three times per year: at the beginning, middle, and year's end. A student's i-Ready Diagnostic score and growth throughout the year are important factors for placement in our Math and ELA courses. Student's 7th and 8th-grade i-Ready results are also part of the application process to most Catholic High Schools.

In addition to the diagnostic test, we use the i-Ready supporting instructional program to help students achieve learning growth. As part of weekly assigned classwork/homework, students complete 45 minutes a week in Reading i-Ready instruction and 45 minutes a week in Math i-Ready instruction. An overview of i-Ready is available here.

WE ARE PLEASED to share that our students have increased or maintained growth for four consecutive years. St. Barnabas students consistently outperform the state of Illinois proficiency levels in reading and math. St. Barnabas students also outperform the Archdiocese of Chicago i-Ready average.
