Volunteer Opportunities

In keeping with the Catholic tradition of service, volunteerism is an important part of our school culture. We ask each parent to become involved with volunteering and serving our school community. Whether your schedule and interests allow for a few hours here and there or a larger time commitment, we are confident that you'll discover volunteering at St. Barnabas is a deeply rewarding experience. Volunteer activities are typically coordinated directly by the organization facilitating the event.  Linked below, we provide an overview of these organizations and some of their available opportunities. We also share volunteer opportunities in our weekly school newsletter.

Explore the range of offerings listed below and find a place to share your time or talent. Taking that first step to be involved can sometimes feel intimidating.  If you're curious about volunteering but don’t know where to start, we would love to talk about your interests and find an opportunity that suits you.  Please reach out to School Advisory Board Member Peggy Barry at [email protected] or Assistant Principal Ms. Grace Sadowski at [email protected], and they will be happy to guide you through the volunteer opportunities at St. Barnabas School.

Virtus Requirement: Each adult volunteer who spends time with a student (from a field trip chaperone to a long-time coach) must complete the annual Virtus Volunteer requirements. Learn more.

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS
Volunteer opportunities that our school administration directly coordinates and teachers include:
  • Lunchroom Volunteers - help out in the lunchroom any day of the week.
  • Room Parent -  support the homeroom teacher throughout the year.
  • Service Day Chaperone - Friday, October 3: one of our favorite days of the year!  Thank you to the 100 parent volunteers who helped out!!
  • Class of 2026 Volunteers - as part of our students' 8th-grade year, we ask all parents of 8th-grade students to volunteer their time to help plan and support the Class of 2026 events.
  • Field Trips - most grades take two field trips per year. Parent chaperones help to make these experiences safe and special.  Chaperone opportunities will be communicated directly to parents by their homeroom teacher and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
ATHLETIC VOLUNTEERS

The St. Barnabas Athletic Board manages St. Barnabas athletics in partnership with the school and parish. We offer a robust sports program, and parent volunteerism is an essential component of this program.

  • Gym Duty - For sports teams that compete within our school gym, there is a volunteer requirement of gym duty shifts (concession or ticketing) for families. The number of shifts (typically two or three per season) is determined at the start of each season based on the number of home games. The link is shared directly with families when their athlete is in season.  Volunteer gym duty for Girls Basketball families is currently in session.
  • Coaches - We have many teams within our sports program, and are often seeking new coaches. Please connect with an Athletic Board Sports Coordinator if you are interested in a coaching role.
  • Sports Coordinators - Coordinators are responsible for operations and overall management of their respective sport. They manage budgets, secure coaches, and attend monthly Athletic Board meetings. There are currently a few open positions to consider.
FSA VOLUNTEERS
The Family School Association (FSA) is a volunteer parent/guardian organization similar to a traditional PTA. The mission of the FSA is to provide support to our school community through fun events that engage our students and build community togetherness. The Spring Musical, Scholastic Book Fair, School Yearbook, Spirit Day, and Fun Food Days are just a few of the engaging events the FSA facilitates. FSA meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the Main Hall.  Learn more

MEN'S CLUB VOLUNTEERS
The Men’s Club is a parish and school organization that unites men of the St. Barnabas community and provides support and financial resources to key programs and charitable events such as Fall Fest, Kevin G. Barron Scholarship, and the Staff Stocking Stuffer. The Men’s Club spearheads an annual Golf Outing in the Fall and the annual Progressive Mixer and Christmas Wreath sale in December. The club also hosts a number of casual events throughout the year to bring the men of the parish together. Connect with the Men’s Club by completing the Interest Form.
PARENT FOUNDATION VOLUNTEERS
The Parent Foundation, established in 2022, is the newest auxiliary group of St. Barnabas. An independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Its goal is to raise funds to provide an annual monetary gift to teachers and academic staff. To learn more about the organization and how you might share your talents, please connect with Taylor Zator at [email protected] or Nick O'Connor at [email protected].
SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD VOLUNTEERS
The St. Barnabas School Advisory Board is an elected volunteer committee.  Board Members serve a three-year term and work in partnership with the school administration to collaborate and support ongoing initiatives, recommend and review policies, review and advise on the annual school budget, and represent the St. Barnabas school community.  The application process for the board opens each spring, and details will be shared through our school website and newsletter.
PARISH VOLUNTEERS
In addition to their school volunteerism, many families find great fulfillment in sharing their time with our church.  Learn more about parish volunteerism.
