Service Day 2025
WHY WE SERVE - Service to others is fundamental to our mission at St. Barnabas. We believe the best way to learn our Root Beliefs is to live them, and Service Day is the perfect way to live out our belief that “We are the hands of Christ.” Engaging students in hands-on experiences opens their hearts and minds to how they can best help those in need, and we ask all students to participate in Service Day on Friday, October 3. On this remarkable and inspiring day, over 600 students, staff, and parent volunteers will gather to help others. Parents and guardians, if you have time to join us for this day, please do!
DETAILS TO KNOW - The day is a required attendance day with a 1:30pm dismissal. After Care is available from 1:30pm - 6pm.
- Our youngest Buckeyes, Preschool - Grade 3, remain at St. Barnabas School throughout the day. Students will spend the day with their grade learning about how we can help those within our community and complete their service work on campus.
- Students in Grades 4 - 8 will travel off campus by bus to service organizations throughout the Chicagoland area. Each organization has been carefully selected to have a positive and engaging impact on both our students and the organizations. At Service Day, students will be grouped together by grade bands. Students in 4th and 5th grade will be paired together, while students in 6th through 8th grade will be grouped together.
REGISTRATION - Each student is required to have an authorized registration form submitted no later than Monday, September 8. There is a $12 fee per student, which is added to families' tuition statements as an incidental expense. The fee helps us cover most of the supplies, site donations, and bus fees.
- Preschool - Grade 3: The online registration serves as your permission (just like a field trip permission form) and also provides an opportunity to sign up to chaperone.
- Grades 4 - 8: Like the younger grades, the online registration serves as permission (just like a field trip permission form) and provides parents an opportunity to sign up to chaperone. It also allows students to select their preferred service site. During the first week of school, students will spend time with their teachers learning about the organizations we have partnered with. Students are encouraged to register at a service site that resonates with them. Each service site has limited spots available. Once a service site has reached its maximum student capacity, you will need to select from one of our other available opportunities. Due to bus/site capacity, we cannot add more registrations to a site that has reached capacity.
CHAPERONES - Parents are welcome to participate as volunteer chaperones at Service Day. All volunteers are required to be Virtus compliant, so please ensure you are up to date with all requirements before October 3. When registering your child, there will be an option to indicate you wish to volunteer. If you have multiple children at St. Barnabas, please volunteer at only ONE service site.
