MEMORY BOOK PHOTOS NEEDED
Needed:  a baby picture of your child and any individual or group pictures from their time at St. Barnabas - field trip, school holiday activities, sports events, etc.  It is a tradition for the 8th-grade students to receive a Memory Book of their time at St. Barnabas, a beloved keepsake.  Help to make sure all students are part of this commemorative book! 
Please note that this is a new way to share and upload your photos!
 
RIBBON MASS - Sunday, May 5
Hosted by St. Barnabas Parish
Join us for 10am mass, celebrated as a parish. Students will receive a ribbon for classmates to sign. The signed ribbon is intended as a fun keepsake and does not need to be worn at the graduation ceremony. A second ribbon will be provided to each student at the graduation ceremony to be worn on their graduation gown.

MAY CROWNING - Friday, May 10
Hosted by St. Barnabas School 
Prayer service honoring the Blessed Mother. The 2nd-grade and 8th-grade students participate in the all-school service, and the 8th-grade Student Council Commissioner of Religious Affairs will crown Mother Mary.
  • Time: 1:45pm, procession from the school into Church
  • Location: St. Barnabas Church
  • Attendees: students, parents/guardians, and extended family welcome
  • Attire:  Dressy Church Attire. For girls, a modest, knee-length (or longer) dress (or jumpsuit) in keeping with the reverence of the occasion. Wearing a white dress, as is often a May Crowing tradition,  is optional. For boys, suit and tie, or dress shirt and dress pants.

VARSITY SOCCER “PACK THE FIELD” - Saturday, May 11

First-ever soccer pack the house! “Pack the Field”
  • Time: Varsity Game at 12:45pm; more details to come!

CLASS TRIP TO THE WHITE SOX GAME - Wednesday, May 15
Hosted by St. Barnabas School 
Class trip to 1pm White Sox vs Washington Nationals game.  Students and chaperones will travel by Metra train to the game and return via school bus.  Lunch and tailgating prior to the game. 
  • Time: 7:45am regular arrival.  Dismissal from school at around 5pm. The return bus departs Guaranteed Rate Field at approximately 4pm. We anticipate a 4:45 - 5pm arrival back to school.

  • Food details:  lunch will be provided during tailgating prior to the game.  If students wish to purchase additional food and beverages while inside the park they should bring spending money.

DINNER DANCE - Saturday, May 18

An off-campus evening of dinner and dancing for students.

ARTS & ATHLETIC BANQUET - Wednesday, May 22
Hosted by The St. Barnabas Athletic Board
An Optional Dinner and Awards banquet honors students for their achievements over the years in St. Barnabas arts (band and theater) and athletics. The host will collect an additional fee for attendees, which includes the cost of dinner.

Last full day of school for 8th-grade students. Students walk the halls and are “clapped out” by the younger students. Parents/Guardians are welcome to join us at the Main Entrance as students exit the building.

RETREAT & LOCK-IN - Tuesday, May 28
Hosted by St. Barnabas School 
Students will spend a day in prayer, reflection, community building, and fun. The goal of the retreat and lock-in is to strengthen their relationships with God, themselves, and one another as they prepare for this important transition in their lives. 
  • Time: 7:45am regular arrival.  Dismissal from school at 9pm (student must be pickup by a designated adult)

CAR PARADE   - Thursday, May 30
Hosted by The 8th-Grade Parent Committee
8th-grade students and parents/guardians gather in the St. Barnabas parking lot. All are encouraged to decorate parade cars. Families who are on the parade route are encouraged to decorate, invite their block to come out, create cheer stations, make posters, have music, and celebrate. Families who are not on the parade route are encouraged to create a cheer station with family and friends by joining in anywhere on the route or on the St. Barnabas grounds, where the parade will start and finish.
  • Time: meet at 6:30pm; the parade kicks off at 7pm from the parking lot
  • Location: St. Barnabas School parking lot.  The parade route will be released the week of the parade.

GRADUATION CEREMONY & LITURGY - Friday, May 31
Hosted by St. Barnabas School
Students should arrive in caps and gowns. The graduation is a liturgy and ceremony; balloons are not allowed in the Church. Extended family members are welcome; there is no guest limit. Seating is open throughout the Church and is not assigned or reserved in advance. Church doors open for seating beginning at 6:30 p.m.

STUDENT & PARENT GRADUATION PARTY - Friday, May 31

The Krabbe's are looking for a few people to join in the party planning; please connect with Stephanie (contact info below) if you can help.
Optional post-graduation party for students and parents. This event is not coordinated through the school and is an off-campus event. An additional fee will be collected by the committee. 
  • Time: after the ceremony, around 9pm
  • Location: The Krabbe Family Home, 10020 S. Winchester.
  • Attendees: students and parents/guardians
  • Attire: personal preference, casual or graduation attire. Most attendees choose to change at home prior to arriving at the party.
